Black Women Let Loose Theatre Company and African Voices Forum are celebrating Black History Month with a partnership event at St George’s Bristol. A performance and discussion on Friday 25 October 2019 will focus on contributions from Black African and African Caribbean women.
Shades of our Lives was first delivered to a sell-out audience at Bristol Old Vic in March. The performance offers thought-provoking insights into the actors’ life experiences. It is packed full of themed short pieces exploring topics such as identity and belonging, examining issues familiar to all and presented in an inventive eclectic style.
Audience feedback has been truly encouraging with comments such as: “insightful…, educational…, heartfelt…, moving and convincing about so many issues…, imaginative, fun and thoughtful.
This show at St George’s Bristol is their third performance following a second show, with Kiota, at the Wardrobe Theatre in June.
In 2018, African Voices Forum published a book titled Inspirational Women: Personal Narratives to capture the experiences and achievements of women of African descent – role models who inspire and make a difference in their communities.
After the full performance of Shades of our Lives, there will be a Q&A session with individuals featured in the book.
